CMAC ACHIEVEMENTS IN 2011 AND FORWARD OPERATIONAL PLANING FOR 2012


On 30 April 2012, The Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC) held a Workshop in Sangkeir hotel, Battambang Provincial Town. The aim of this workshop was to strengthen operational implementations to achieve the CMAC Integrated Work plan 2012, and to share field experiences from CMAC Operational Achievementa in 2011.

H.E Oum Phumro, CMAC Deputy Director indicated that in 2011, CMAC achieved total mine/UXO clearance and release of 52,075,770 Sqm. Mine/UXO Field Marked was 366,620 m, AP Found 14,573, IMP 229, AT 406, UXO 89,278, Task Response 9062, and Baseline Survey 640 villages.

Additional to these landmine/UXO clearance achievements, CMAC also accomplished community development site projects to support the Royal Government Plan of Poverty Reduction in Odonpeo commune, Bavel district of Battambang province. These CMAC  achievements included construction of Lateritic road 11,941m, Non-Lateritic road 15,272m, 17, 3 well pumps, 1 school with 5 class rooms, 1 concrete causeway, 2 spill ways and 55 cross drainages. Agriculture training was delivered to 1,314 farmers, community development coordination was supplied to 288 villages. Training Mine Action also included 46 training courses consisting of 861 trainees in total that were conducted at the CMAC training center in Kg. Chhnang province. Participating trainees were from CMAC staff, military units, police, military engineers, MAG and CMAA. CMAC also provided special training courses to 30 Columbians and 05 Nepalese.

In the 2012 Work Plan, H.E Oum Phumro proposed that, CMAC will conduct landmine /UXO clearance and release of approximately 82,592,000 Sqm in total, baseline survey of 4,019 villages, and EOD task responses totaling 10,800. CMAC will continue to conduct mine risk education consisting of 6,582 sessions with 155,034 participants and agricultural training to 750 farmers. This year will also include construction of 18 km of lateritic road, construction of 3 spill ways, 11 ponds, 7 well pumps, and a school building with 5 class rooms.

The Workshop was presented to 248 CMAC field and office staff from all Demining Units and it was chaired by H.E. Heng Ratana, Advisor to Samdech Akak Mohasenabadey Techo Hun Sen, the Prime Minister of the Royal Government of Cambodia.
