On February 15, 2024, at the Embassy of Japan in Cambodia, H.E Heng Ratana and H.E. UENO Atsushi, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, signed a grant aid agreement with a total amount of $515,060. This project has two main goals.

1. develop advanced information technology systems (AI) to locate areas affected by landmines and unexploded ordnance, and

2. support survey teams in Pursat, Kampong Thom, and Siem Reap provinces to verify the accuracy of the AI database. It should be noted that the Royal Government of Cambodia has given a green light to CMAC to conduct surveys on bomb sites and cluster munitions by creating national data for national strategic planning and disaster management. With the Japanese government-backed AI database, CMAC will work closely with the NEC to develop and set up the system. At the same time, CMAC expects to share this experience with other mine affected countries by using AI database.
