CMAC and JICA Hold Meeting to Launch Project Phase 2

On May 30, 2025, at CMAC’s Phnom Penh Headquarters, Ms. Eri Komukai, JICA Senior Advisor from Tokyo; Mr. HIJIKAWA Kento, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Cambodia; and H.E. Heng Ratana, Delegate of the Royal Government in charge as Director General of CMAC, jointly chaired a meeting of the Joint Coordination Committee for “The Project for Strengthening Organizational Functions of CMAC” (Phase 2). The meeting focused on three core outputs: international cooperation, the adoption of new technology and development, and public relations.

Participants included relevant CMAC officials, JICA officers, representatives from the Peacebuilding Office, and members of the consultant team. The discussion centered on detailed implementation activities under the second phase of the technical cooperation project, which officially began in March 2025. Following the meeting, H.E. Heng Ratana and Ms. Eri Komukai signed the minutes to move forward with the project’s implementation. This initiative supports CMAC’s Strategic Plan 2026–2035 and aligns with the roadmap developed during the previous phase of the project, which is part of the Cambodia–Japan Landmine Initiative. This initiative was announced by KAMIKAWA Yoko, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, during her official visit to CMAC’s Phnom Penh Headquarters on July 6, 2024.

On behalf of the Cambodian government, H.E. Heng Ratana expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Government of Japan and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for their continued technical cooperation in support of mine action activities. H.E. Heng Ratana emphasized that this assistance strengthens CMAC’s operational capacity and enables Cambodia to share its experience with other mine/UXO-affected countries.
