External Affairs and International Cooperation

External Affairs

The Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) actively engages in external affairs to strengthen partnerships, secure funding, and promote international cooperation in mine action. CMAC collaborates closely with various stakeholders, including national governments, international organizations, NGOs, and donor agencies, to support its demining and capacity-building efforts. Through these partnerships, CMAC is able to access resources, technical expertise, and policy support, which are essential for expanding its operations and enhancing the effectiveness of its programs. Additionally, CMAC participates in global forums and initiatives on humanitarian demining to share best practices and advocate for continued international commitment to mine clearance and post-conflict recovery.

International Cooperation

Cambodia has moved from solely solving its own landmine/ERW problem to assisting other countries to do so. In this regard, CMAC has played an important role in promoting international cooperation and knowledge exchange by sharing its experiences and know-how with other mine affected countries and demining organizations. Most of these exchanges were conducted in a less formal way, whereby exchange visits and study tours were arranged directly with CMAC. However, since 2006, the year when Japan started to play a more important role in the promotion of international cooperation under South-South Cooperation scheme, a more official exchange program has been established with the support of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Overseas Missions

The Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) extends its expertise in demining through overseas missions, sharing its experience and skills with other countries affected by landmines and explosive remnants of war. CMAC teams are deployed to support international mine action efforts, providing technical assistance, training, and capacity-building to local organizations. These missions not only contribute to global demining initiatives but also enhance CMAC’s own capabilities by fostering knowledge exchange and cooperation. By participating in overseas missions, CMAC strengthens Cambodia’s role as a leader in humanitarian demining, promoting safer and more secure environments in other post-conflict regions.
