Grant-in-Aid Project signed to Support CMAC with Technical Demining Equipment
On the morning of June 6, at the Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC) headquarters in Phnom Penh, a signing ceremony was held for the minutes of the Consultative Committee of the Grant-in-Aid Program of the Government of Japan for the Economic and Social Development Program for Cambodia
The agreement was signed by H.E. Heng Ratana, Delegate of the Royal Government in charge as Director General of CMAC; SANUI Kazumasa, Chief Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Cambodia; and FUJISAKI Seiyu, Project Director of the Japan International Cooperation System (JICS). The grant-in-aid, totaling 1.166 billion yen (approximately $ 7.8 million), will fund the procurement of advanced technical demining equipment for CMAC. This project aims to strengthen CMAC’s operational capacity through the modernization of its equipment, including demining machines, ALIS mine detectors, robotic mine clearance systems, barrier vehicles, buses, and heavy-duty trucks. SANUI Kazumasa expressed appreciation for the longstanding partnership between JICA and CMAC, highlighting this initiative as a new and significant area of collaboration. FUJISAKI Seiyu reaffirmed JICS’s commitment to ensuring the professional and efficient procurement of the necessary equipment.
H.E. Heng Ratana emphasized that the project represents a milestone in technological advancement and cooperation. He noted that it will enhance mine clearance capabilities and support training efforts in mine-affected countries, showcasing Japan’s continued support for Cambodia’s economic and social development.
