CMAC Launches Technical Mine Action Training Course for Successor Officers

On the afternoon of 14 January 2025, the Technical Institute of Mine Action (TIMA) in Kampong Chhnang Province hosted the official opening ceremony of the 5th batch of the Technical Training Course on Mine Clearance and Unexploded Ordnance (UXO), Level 2 Technical and Vocational Certificate 1, for 82 successor officers.

Director of TIMA, Mr. Chhin Bunran, stated that the training program aims to enhance the professional capacity and technical skills of the 82 trainees. The participants are successor officers currently engaged in mine clearance and UXO disposal operations, with the objective of ensuring safety, efficiency, and adherence to professional operational standards. Mr. Chhin Bunran further noted that the course comprises 592 hours of theoretical instruction and practical training, conducted over a 12-month period.

H.E. Heng Ratana, Delegate of the Royal Government in charge and Director General of the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC), encouraged all trainees to fully commit to both their studies and practical training. He urged them to closely follow the instructors’ guidance and to maintain a high level of discipline. He emphasized that the clearance of landmines and UXOs is a life-threatening task that leaves no margin for error. Most importantly, he highlighted that this profession plays a crucial role in ensuring public safety and supporting national development. It should be noted that CMAC’s Technical Institute of Mine Action continues to play a vital role in technical training, as well as in the sharing of knowledge and experience in the field of mine action and Explosive Remnants of War (ERW). This mission extends across both national and international frameworks, particularly in support of countries affected by landmines and remnants of war.
