Meeting to discuss cooperation and strategic partnership in the field of mine action with the People’s Republic of China
On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Kingdom of Cambodia, H.E. Heng Ratana, Delegate of the Royal Government in charge as director general of CMAC, held a courtesy meeting with His Excellency Wang Wentian, ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Cambodia, to further strengthen cooperation and the strategic partnership in the field of mine action. During this meeting, H.E. Heng Ratana informed His Excellency H.E. Wang Wenbin about the progress of mine clearance operations and explosive remnants of war (ERW) achieved by CMAC, especially regarding the operations under the "China-Aided Cambodia Landmine Elimination Project," which the Chinese government and people have provided to the Royal Government to support CMAC's clearance activities. This project has achieved remarkable results. He also added information regarding the use of Chinese technical equipment to make the clearance of mines and ERW more effective and safe.
In response, the ambassador highly valued and praised the Royal Government of Cambodia's achievements in maintaining full peace, particularly the implementation of mine action policies. H.E. Wang Wenbin noted that Cambodia has achieved brilliant results in ensuring safety and socio-economic development, as well as sharing its experiences with others. At the same time, the ambassador has confirmed China's firm stance and readiness to continue providing grants and support for humanitarian mine/ERW operations to this kingdom. This support aims to accelerate clearance operations to meet set goals, emphasizing that the Chinese side will continue to stand with Cambodia in addressing the issue of explosive remnants of war for the safety of the people and sustainable development.
It is also vital to note that regarding the results of operations under the Chinese-aided project to eliminate landmines in Cambodia (from 2018 to February 28, 2026) CMAC has cleared over 19,000 hectares of minefields and explosive remnants of war. This operational achievement has found and destroyed a total of over 105,000 landmines and unexploded ordnance; responded to over 5,900 requests for emergency intervention; and provided mine/ERW awareness education to a total of over 4.6 million people. More than 378,000 families, equivalent to over 1,454,000 people, have benefited both directly and indirectly from this project. On this occasion, H.E. also expressed his deepest gratitude to the government and people of China for their consistent support in spirit, technical equipment, and funding. These are essential factors that enable CMAC to expand the scope of its operations more broadly and effectively, contributing to the further development and progress of the country."
