In the afternoon of Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at the Techo Peace Museum in Siem Reap Province, His Excellency Heng Ratana, Delegate of the Royal Government in charge as Directo General of CMAC, welcomed and held a working meeting with a regional delegation from the European Union (EU), led by Mr. Andreas Roettger, Head of Unit for the Foreign Policy Instruments (FPI) team, and his colleagues.

Speaking during this important meeting, H.E. Heng Ratana briefed the delegation on the impacts caused by explosive remnants of war (ERW), emphasizing how this contamination severely threatens public safety, socio-economic development, and cultural heritage. In response, Mr. Andreas Roettger confirmed the approval of grant assistance to support mine action operations conducted by the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) in partnership with APOPO. The funding totals EUR 1,598,999 (approximately USD 1.8 million) for an 18-month duration starting in October 2026. The project will operate in Preah Vihear and Oddar Meanchey provinces to clear over 6,000 hectares of affected land, provide Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE), and conduct technical surveys to map and release land contaminated by explosive remnants.

H.E. Heng Ratana expressed his profound gratitude for the EU's recognition and continued support. He reaffirmed CMAC's strong commitment to further strengthening its partnership and cooperation with APOPO and the European Union to eliminate the threat of explosive remnants of war, ensuring safety and building a prosperous future for the Cambodian people. Following the working meeting, the EU delegation toured the Techo Peace Museum, which exhibits records, photographs, and evidence commemorating the tragedy of war while demonstrating the immense value of Cambodia's hard-won peace.
